Message from Coach Chris
BAC Swimmers-
I have some very exciting and sad news to share with you. I am excited to say that BAC will become part of the Enfinity group. We will be joining Enfinity Health (Enfinity Fit and Enfinity Food) and becoming Enfinity Swim. I am sad to say we will no longer be BAC.
I have been talking with Nick and Tim (owners of Enfinity). Currently I am spread way to thin coaching Masters and Star team. I am on deck, but I can not provide the type of expierence to BAC that I originally wanted. Tim will be spear heading the new team with more energy than I can provide. We hope to have more regular social events, intersquad meets, and create more practice opportunities with an increased coaching staff. I will be on deck coaching still at most practices, but joining in the fun will be Tim Hillen, Micah Eberle, Joe Rhyne, and Jess Finerty.
Everyone who paid through May 31st will still be able to swim in May. By June 1st you will need to register through Enfinity Swims website. However, on April 30th we will official roll over and become Enfinity Swim. The prices and schedule will basically stay the same.
Morning $150 per quarter
Lunch time $125 per quarter
Any time $170 per quarter
As of April 30th, morning practices will be moving to WFU pool. There is additional locker room space and time there, as well as added convenience for many of our participants. Lunch time practices will stay at Salem College for the time being. Over all we will run a similar Schedule with the addition of Saturday morning practice
Morning Practice:
M/W/F 6:00 to 7:15am
Saturday 7:00 to 8:15am
Lunch Time Practice:
M/Tu/Th 11:30 to 12:30am
The goal of this change is to provide more opportunities and better service to everyone. Please let me know if you have any questions about your membership.
Thank you to all the participants of BAC, I hope to see you wearing a Enfinity cap very soon.
Thanks
Chris

March Technique Tips
Sometimes less is more
With Master's Nationals right around the corner, it is time to begin focusing more on racing technique than stroke technique. One common mistake athletes make when they race is to "spin", which often results in a slower than expected time. Over the next few weeks, focus on having a long and powerful stroke by limiting your stroke count, instead of focusing on high tempo. As you go through a workout, start by counting your strokes in warm-up, and then try to maintain that stroke count throughout the practice, while finding ways to go faster. Add in a little more kick, or get a better grip on the water. One thing to avoid: going farther off your walls. If you decide you want to do more underwater kicking, lessen your stroke count.
Working on Starts
?As many of you have already found, we don't spend a lot of time working on starts during practice, so, here are a few things you can do during your time at the pool that will have a significant impact on your starts.
1. Work on diving from the side: Climb out at the deep end and stand on the edge of the pool with your toes curled over the edge. Dive in, and focus on getting your hips up, so that you smoothly slide through one hole.
2. Once you feel you have mastered step 1: Hop on the blocks! Balance your weight between your front and back foot, keeps your hips up when you take your mark, and remember to push off the block with both your hands and your feet. Work on power, not speed.
Prices
Pricing for the quarter will be the following. I am sorry that I had to increase prices a little and reduce flexibility, I know that this will adversely effect both of us. Since there are only three practices a week for morning or lunch I have simplified the plans. Please be aware that this quarter is about $7 cheaper because we have had reduce practices these first two weeks.
Lunch Only Unlimited- $127
Morning Only Unlimited- $148
Anytime Unlimited- $168
Family (2 people)- 15% Off Total
You will be able to register Starting Sept 5th at 5pm. Please pay over the web or by check or cash by the end of the first week.
** I will do my best to run Saturday or Sunday practice if a week day practice is canceled. I know that this Schedule is less flexible than in the past.
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
Thanks
Chris
Practice Locations
Bowker Aquatic Club practices are held at Salem College. Salem College Pool is located off Salem Road. To get there from the YWCA, you will go through the turn circle and take the first right. Go past the soccer fields on your right and take your first left into Salem College. Take that road until it dead ends. Park in the lower parking lot.
From Business 40, take 52 south. Take the first exit which is Stadium drive. You will want to take a right on Stadium Drive so you are going away from WSSU. When Stadium Dr. dead ends into Salem Rd, take a left. Go down the hill. You will pass a bank on your left you will need to take an immediate right. Follow this road until you reach a dead end. Park in the lower parking lot.
The pool is located in the "A" shaped building.
